Hillary Clinton lost the election but "won" the popular vote
Presidential results:
290 electoral votes for Trump 232 electoral votes for Clinton
47.3% 60,265,858 votes 47.8% 60,839,922 votes
Donald Trump managed to get enough electoral votes (270) to win the election.
Even though Hillary Clinton apparently won the popular vote, she didn't get the required 270 electoral votes to be elected president. It also happened to AL Gore in 2000 when he lost the election against George W Bush.
